How do I know if my child needs therapy and what type of service is most appropriate?

During your initial consultation, we will discuss your concerns to determine if an OT or PT evaluation is appropriate. If so, a therapist will complete a thorough evaluation and provide recommendations. This may include starting therapy, providing at-home strategies, or referring you to another specialist.

What ages do you work with?

We provide OT and PT services to children from birth through age 18.

How do I prepare my child for the initial assessment?

Make sure you child is well-rested and wearing comfortable clothing and typical shoes. Please bring any equipment or orthotics that your child typically uses or wears. If your child is not feeling well on the day of the evaluation, we recommend rescheduling so that our therapist can get the most accurate picture of your child’s skills.

How long and how often are therapy sessions?

Sessions are typically one hour long and may be once or twice per week. During the initial evaluation, your child’s therapist will determine the most appropriate duration and frequency of services in order to meet your child’s individual needs and goals.

What can I do at home to help my child?

Your child’s therapist will partner with you during the therapy process, providing home exercises and strategies for you to incorporate into your routine throughout the week.

Do I have to be present while my child is in a therapy session?

Yes! We encourage parents to participate during in home therapy sessions to learn the activities and strategies that will best help your child meet therapy goals and make consistent progress.
 
Parents are required to remain on-site during clinic visits. In most cases, parents are encouraged to join in the therapy session, but we also understand that some children do better when the parent is not in the room. In this case, you are welcome to wait in our waiting area and your child’s therapist will bring you back into the session during the last 15 minutes to share details of the session and your child’s progress.

How much do services cost?

We will contact your insurance company and determine your therapy benefits and share them with you, including your estimated out of pocket expenses, prior to the evaluation and any ongoing services.

Do you accept insurance?

We are in-network with the following insurance companies: Blue Cross Blue Shield (except for Blue Value, Blue Home, and Blue Local plan), Aetna, Cigna, Tricare, Medcost, Carolina Complete Health, Healthy Blue of NC, Amerihealth Caritas North Carolina, United Healthcare Community Plan of NC, Alliance Health and NC Medicaid Direct.
 
We also are contracted providers with the Raleigh Children’s Developmental Services Agency (CDSA) and are ESA+ providers.

What if Partners in Therapy is not in-network with my insurance?

In the event that we are out-of-network with your provider, services will be billed at our private pay rates. For clients with out-of-network benefits, we provide detailed superbills—including all required diagnostic and procedural codes, so you can submit it to your insurance for potential reimbursement.

Is home-based therapy right for my child?

Accepted Answer

Research shows that both home-based and clinic-based OT and PT offer comparable outcomes, and the choice of setting depends on your child's specific goals and developmental stage. Home-based therapy is often ideal for very young children as it utilizes the child's natural learning environment, helps with generalization of skills, and maximizes family involvement. Conversely, the clinic setting offers more structure and fewer distractions and may also offer opportunities for specialized equipment and peer interactions. Many families prefer a hybrid approach, where a combination of clinic-based sessions and home-based or daycare/private school-based sessions are used. You and your child’s therapist can discuss the best option for your child during the evaluation.
