What is Occupational Therapy (OT)?
Pediatric occupational therapy helps children to participate in their daily occupations of school, play and self-care. This goal is achieved using a combination of three approaches:
- Working on underlying needs such as (but not limited to) muscle weakness, sensory integration problems, or coordination deficits.
- Modifying the task or activity to suit the child's abilities.
- Modifying the environment in which the task is performed.
By using all these approaches together, the child achieves the ability to participate more fully and be more successful in the classroom, have fun and engage more fully in play activities and be more independent during dressing and mealtime activities.
